You Know the saying, ‘what goes around comes around’. This could not be truer than the 80's & 90's fashion movements coming back into fashion in the 2020's. In this post, I will be demonstrating my views on the biggest trends from the 90's that we are seeing in fashion today.

  1. Baggy Jeans

In the past year, baggy jeans have become the staple of modern-day fashion. For some people, this was mainly influenced by the increase in comfort they have to offer. On the other hand, it’s about representing the generation their parents grew up in. Originally, baggy jeans were made popular by the skater movement of the 90's and the breakaway from 80's fashion.

2. Cargo Trousers

The epitome of practicality, cargo trousers have been making a comeback recently. With rows of pockets and versatility that is rivaled by none, this trend’s re-rise was amplified when Bella Hadid was seen wearing a pair of cropped, camouflaged cargo pants.

3. Denim Overalls

Over the past 30 years, the most likely place to find a pair of denim overalls is on a toddler dressed by mummy for the day in daycare. However, this has been replaced by the street in this decade. Designers are changing overalls as we know it, from oversized to animal print, there's a lot to get excited about regarding the iconic garment.

4. Colourful Windbreaker

Part of the rise of Athleisure, vintage windbreakers have become a highly sought-after garment. One of the reasons for this is the bright colours windbreakers have to offer. Paired with plain colour trouser, a colourful windbreaker can offer contrast only found in a copy of Vogue from 1985.

5. Sneakers

At this point, we’ve all seen a pair of Jordan 1 in the street. However, the resurgence of shoes like Nike Dunks, Jordan 1’s and Jordan 4’s has taken the world by storm. Walk down the street in any city and you’ll find the Jordan 1 and Carhartt Cargo combo in a matter of minutes.

Summarising 70's, 80's, 90's Fashion:

'Fashion's response to these socio-political issues in the 1970's, 80's and 90's emphasised fashion's effectiveness as a visual arts tool for communicating socio-political ideas and inciting revolution. Arguably, when Paris catwalk designer wear succumbed to the voice of street style, the final phase in the process of democratisation in fashion was realised.'
